Ein „guter“ Theologe kennt sich in seinen Heiligen Schriften aus und kann Auskunft geben über deren Werden und ihre Bedeutung damals und heute. Das ist schließlich auch die Pflicht eines Theologen. Die Kür macht den „sehr guten“ Theologen aus, wenn er über den eigenen Tellerrand schauen kann, wenn er Bezüge herstellen kann zu anderen theologischen Schriften, zur Literatur, zu gesellschaftlichen Strömungen. Karl-Josef Kuschel ist ein solch „sehr guter Theologe“, der sich vor allem mit dem interreligiösen Trialog zwischen den monotheistischen Religionen beschäftigt hat.
